In the 30’s and 40’s picture books were mostly illustrated fairy tales. Margaret Wise Brown was on the cutting edge of the picture book industry changing. Little Golden Books were inexpensive and were wonderfully illustrated. Publishers like William Scott and Harpers were instrumental in growing the children’s book industry.
