Impressions

I’m sure at some point in the last 25 years, I’ve talked about why I started collecting Margaret Wise Brown books. It’s simple really. My husband is a rare book collector ( and other stuff) and we would go to used book sales all over, thrift stores, yard sales, estate sales, and conventions. I was basically along for the ride, and found myself gravitating towards the children’s books. At first I collected Little Golden Books, they were usually cheap and because they are numbered, it was fun collecting them. My favorite LGB is Mr Dog. Written by MWB, SO the next logical collection was books by MWB. I think it was 1999 when I started my first fan page for MWB and her books.

In 2004 started the website. It’s had various URL’s over the years. I’ve met and corresponded with some wonderful people through my website; Sisters Laurel and Rose who through their mother WAG, knew MWB, Leonard S Marcus the author of MWB’s Biography as well as many serious collectors of her work.

While collecting any authors work, one naturally becomes curious about what they were like. What impression did they leave? I have conversed with and read letters by people that knew MWB. I’ve read all the bios. I’ve read all of her books. I’ve read nearly every book, article, and research paper that mentions her. I think I have formed my own impression of what she was like. but it is most likely wrong, Because I have never met her. I have a strong opinion about how many books she wrote. I have a strong opinion about her love life and that is- that it’s none of my business. Lastly I have a strong opinion about how important MWB was to the world of Children’s literature, and that is beyond words.

I'd love to hear from you.
